40th Hour Social Club Debuts

Hipster and YPAC events not your thing? Neither were they for Penny Posey. That’s why she organized the 40th Hour Social Club with help from Stratton Tingle. What is it? A social club for business professionals to meet for happy hour once a month at 4:00 on a Friday (aka the 40th hour of the work week).

The Regional Relationship Manager at AIM for Brilliance, Penny noticed most adults who are out of their 20’s no longer get “into” the late night bar scene, and some single adults may be intimidated about going to a bar “alone”. This group serves to eliminate both of those issues by providing an opportunity to get together for a Friday afternoon happy hour immediately after work with other working professionals.

Most all the events will begin at 4:00 on Fridays – aka the 40th hour of the typical work week – and will last until between 7:00 and 8:00pm. Posey hope that time frame will give everyone a chance to drop by for at least a little while. “There are already so many “networking” meetings around town, and this group is not meant to replace those – but to offer a much more informal environment with no “expectations” at all – other than mingling and having fun”, she said.

“This is designed purely as a social club. I also intend to use it as a way to showcase our local “watering holes” and give people a chance to try somewhere maybe they haven’t been before. They know ahead of time that there will be drinks and food items that are within their budget. The restaurants/bars agree to give us discounted pricing ($5 cocktails and appetizers and small plates less than $10) and to prepare a few specialty food and drink items to show off their culinary and craft cocktail skills. The club is open to anyone who is 21 yrs old or older and right now the cost for membership is only $10 for the entire year. We will have membership cards for sale at the events.”
