On Thursday June 6, 2013 over 3,500 classic cars will roll into town for the 2013 Hot Rod Power Tour. Chattanooga is one of seven stops on the tour which is organized by Hot Rod Magazine. The Scenic City was a destination on the tour back in 2010, and thanks in part to the CVB, Chattanooga State and Coker Tire it is back – and bigger and better than ever.
Thousands of cars will be on display for the public to view at Chattanooga State from noon till 5pm. Admission is free. Afterwards most of the caravan is expected to cruise over to Coker Tire for an after party. Live music, food truck vendors and classic cars will line the streets surrounding Honest Charley and Coker Tire.
Bob Doak, President of the Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau estimated the economic gain to the local economy to be around one million dollars while speaking at a press conference announcing the event back in April.
While official estimates state about 3,500 classic and muscle cars are expected, Corky Coker, owner of Coker Tire, believes the number will be closer to 5,000 because an expected strong local turnout. Coker Tire held a local “Cruise In” last April that attracted more than a thousand local cars.
Coker Tire’s social media manager, Tommy Lee Bird, plans to be posting pictures throughout the event, and creating some blog posts afterwards. He’ll travel to Charlotte the next day to cover the event as well.
The hashtag for the event is #HRPT13
